What is Daktarin powder?
Daktarin powder quickly begins to clear fungal and bacterial skin infections, with daily use, within 7-10 days.
Daktarin contains the active ingredient miconazole nitrate which is an antifungal medicine that kills fungi and some bacterias that are responsible for infections on the skin of the trunk, hands or feet, outer ear and the groin.
Daktarin powder, unlike Daktarin cream, dries the skin as well as treating the infection. Daktarin powder is therefore often the preferred product for the treatment of conditions such as nappy rash and athlete’s foot where the skin becomes moist and is suitable for use on areas of broken skin.
Daktarin powder is only suitable for fungal infections of the skin. For treatment for fungal nail infections see our Fungal Nail Infection page.
What is Daktarin powder used for?
Daktarin can be used to treat fungal and bacterial infections that affect the skin which includes conditions such as:
However due to its drying effect Daktarin powder is particularly effective at treating nappy rash and athlete’s foot. You can also buy Daktarin cream at The Independent Pharmacy.
Daktarin powder should not be used to treat candidiasis (thrush). For more information and advice about thrush please see our Thrush Symptoms and Treatments page.
How does Daktarin powder work?
Daktarin powder contains miconazole nitrate which is an antifungal agent. When Daktarin is applied to the skin the miconazole destroys the fungal cells by making small holes in their membranes causing their internal content to leak out. This process stops the infection spreading, giving the skin time to heal.
Daktarin powder also contains talc, which is the component that makes up Daktarin’s powder form. The talc is what causes Daktarin powder to be absorbent, which makes it extremely effective at drying out damp skin and reducing friction to irritated areas.
